MPS Air Shifter Install

Pressure Gauge

To get the pressure guage to fit into the hole in the steering head, I had to turn down a 1/8" NPT hex coupling. Then I added a couple O-ring grooves.

Pressure Gauge Install

Once the air hose is installed, all that needs to be done is to push the assembly into the steering stem hole. The O-rings provide a snug, vibration free fit.

Shock mount, compressor.

After much searching, I found some PVC foam at my local home improvement store. I cut a small "L" shaped piece to use as a shock mount between the air compressor and the rear subframe.

Compressor

Here you can see the compressor mounted to the subframe. I used a stainless steel hose clamp positioned around the motor to hold it in place.

Compressor Air Line

Here you can see the compressor from the side. I also cut a small piece of foam between the frame and the hose coupling to isolate any potential vibrations.

Tail Foam

The Competition Werkes under-tail that I have, replaces the floor of the tail with a stainless steel plate. To eliminate any potential rubbing or vibrations, I cut a piece of foam to fit into the tail.

Tail foam install

Here's the foam mounted in the tail section.

Air Tank

Here's the air tank mounted in place. I got it from Frank Adams at www.psycobusa.com. It's not a DOT approved unit... but it works for me.

Air Lines

Here's a view of the air tank with the hoses connected. The hose on the right side (of the bike) comes in from the compressor and the left goes out to the electric air switch.

Air Switch

I mounted the airswitch to the left side of the bike. Note the tee on the back side of the switch, it routes to the air pressure gauge. The line on the front side connects to the pnumatic cylinder.

Air Line Routing

I routed all of the air lines and wires for the compressor along the left side of the bike and neatly tied them to the existing harness.

Pnumatic Cylinder

Here's a view of how I mounted the pnumatic cylinder. I designed and had fabricated a clevis for the top of the cylinder. Since the cylinder came with a clevis on the rod end, I just had to drill a hole in the shift lever and insert the pin.

MPS Kill Box

At the top of the pic you can see how I mounted the kill box. The install was pretty straight forward. Just stick it on to the side of the trunk with the supplied mounting tape.

MPS Harness

I routed the MPS harness along the right side of the bike. Making sure that I didn't get too close to anything hot and tie-rapping along the way. You'll need to tap into the horn for power and also connect the toggle switch to the harness. The brown wires are connected to the hot lead of each of the coil wires.

Air Cylinder side view

After the install, this is pretty much all you see.

Air Cylinder top view

Here's a view from the top and a little better look at the mounting clevis.
