1. What exactly is the switchblade key and how is it made?
In 2007 Acura made an incremental revision to it's already very popular 3rd generation TL sedan. One of the revisions introduced was the addition of a Folding or "Switchblade" key. The traditional key and remote (referred to as a transponder by Acura) were combined into a single unit which lets the user store the key inside the remote by rotating it in the remotes housing.

Note the flat blank blade protruding from the front of the switchblade key assembly.

Over 10 precision machining operations go into making the modified Switchblade Key.
This is the key that you get from us. Note the machined surfaces that enable the key to work with your car.
2. How do I order a key?
Ordering is simple... Just click the add to cart button on the main Switchblade Key page.. I use Paypal to process your order but, you don't need to have a Paypal account to buy keys. At checkout time you can choose to pay with a credit card or check if you want to.

3. Will the key work on my car?
The machined key you buy is compatible with Acura 3rd Generation TL's 2004-2006 and all Acura TSXs 2004-2008.
The key can also be used on Acura RSXs with the exception that the immobilizer chip must be swapped with one from one of your existing keys.
4. What's the difference between a Mem1 key and a Mem2 key?
Acura TL's and TSX's 2006-2008 come equipped with 2 memory settings. These settings allow you to store the seat and mirror positions as well as various other functions depending on the model of the car into one of two memory locations. A Mem1 remote will activate the settings stored in that memory location when the unlock button is pressed. The same goes for a Mem2 remote only it activates the settings stored in the memory 2 location.
5. My car doesn't have memory functions... What do I do?
Fortunately Acura already thought of that. On both the Mem1 and Mem2 switchblade keys the memory function can be disabled so that it works just like a standard remote. The instructions for disabling the memory function is printed on the back of the switchblade key.
6. Will I still be able to use my old keys and/or remotes?
Yes you sure can! You can have as many as 4 keys and 3 remotes programmed at the same time. They can be in any combination as well so it's possible to have 1 Mem1 Switchblade and a Mem1 and Mem2 standard key, a Valet Key and Mem1 and Mem2 remotes. As I said before... any combination adding up to 4 keys and 3 remotes.
7. What do I do once I get the key?
Each car has a set of keys that are unique to that car and in addition Acura's also have an immobilizer chip embedded into the key as an extra level of security. In order to have your switchblade key work with your car... the unique pattern of ridges cut into the edge of your key needs to be duplicated onto the switchblade key. The immobilizer chip embedded into the switchblade key also needs to be programmed. Obviously I can't cut the ridges into the key or program the immobilizer chip as you would need to send me your car and that just wouldn't be practical.
You will need to find a good locksmith or dealership to do the cutting and programming for you. You will also need to have all of your existing keys and remotes, as well as the switchblade key, with you when you go to the dealer or locksmith.
8. Are there any instructions for the key?
Yes there are... Click the button below to go to the instructions page.
9. I already have an brand new key that's not machined... can you machine it for me?
In most cases we can machine your key for you however... We manufacture keys in runs as it's just not cost effective to do them individually.
Email me at flbusa@flbusa.com and we'll see if we can work something out for you.
10. The locksmith or Dealer screwed up my key... What can I do?
Unfortunately once you take the key to someone and they cut it... it's out of our hands. The best thing you can do is use one of the dealers or locksmiths on our list. They already have experience cutting and programming the switchblade keys. Of course they are humans too and can make a mistake. Your only recourse at that point would be to get the dealer or locksmith to pay you for the key that they screwed up.
11. Do you know of any locksmiths or Dealers that will cut and program my key?
Yes... There's a list of dealers and locksmiths located on the instructions page.
